Road Tripping Scotland: St Andrews

What do you do after passing your driving test (for the second time)? Road Trip!!! And with family in Scotland we decided on visiting them near St Andrews and making our way up to the Isle of Skye via the Lochs. But with two kids with us, this was going to be a real adventure.

St Andrews is such an historic town and we lucked out with the weather. We spent the morning wandering the duney beach and Old Course – home to golf’s original Open.

After a pit stop at a cracking lunch spot called Mitchell we strolled the university cloisters.

And just down the road sneaked a few peaks at the ancient castle and cathedral.

We capped off a superb day with an early dinner at a better-than-Franca-Manca pizza at Mozza and dessert at Jannetta’s Gelateria.

We stayed out of town at a golf & spa hotel called the Fairmont which was brilliant – the highlight for C being a soft play room! Before we got the road trip started in earnest we even managed to sneak in a local Park Run at Craigtoun Park where someone set a new PB!

Next stop, Loch Lomond. Until then…

  1. Thanks for sharing. I was in Scotland last year. Just 4 days and stayed in Edinburgh. We went to Loch Lomond. It was raining so we could not hike far. I wanted to go to Isle of Skye but not enough time Went to several distilleries. Glencoe and Gleninchy. Most of the distillery are built around glens(streams).
Loved your pictured. I need to plan my next trip back to Scotland and England. In love with
    both.
