Emerging from a loooong winter, a bump starting to bloom and a desire for sunshine we cashed in some Starwoods points and took a long weekend to Gran Canaria, in the Canary Islands.
Sure, there is still a large party scene, but there’s a growing family sector there and we stayed at one of these paces: the Sheraton Salobre golf and spa resort up in the mountains. For five days we didn’t do a lot – perfect.
We had a little balcony looking out over the pools and down to the sea. There’s about five pools, some for adults, some for kids and a sunset pool/bar. Lots of decent restaurants, but nothing incredible.
After a few days, keen for a change of scenery, we took the free shuttle bus down to Meloneras. There’s a lovely walk along the water by the Lopesan hotel and some great restaurants. We particularly enjoyed cocktails (virgin and non) at the Cafe del Mar and dinner at El Churrasco and Misbah
Back at the hotel, we managed a few rounds of golf at their Arizona-style courses. The old course being fairly traditional and the new course being like playing a real life game of Golden Tee – bring lots of balls. The hotel gives a discount for multiple rounds if pre-booked.
Until next time
