Escaping London – Touring Kent

With not much on and some nice weather predicted for the weekend we decided to see a bit of Kent and get to know our own back garden.

Setting off early we drove down to Knole Park (GBP 4 for parking) in Sevenoaks to take a morning stroll. It’s a beautiful national park with hundreds of wild deer roaming the grounds. Knole House is spectacular and a great centrepiece (GBP 12pp for the showrooms).

From there we drove down to Canterbury for lunch at ABode which a friend recommended. A gourmet lunch and great value.

After wandering the canals and cobbled streets we went to see the cathedral, but it was unfortunately covered in scaffolding.

We drove on to Broadstairs on the coast which boast some of England’s famous white cliffs. We took a stroll along to esplanade down to Stone Bay. We heard Botany Bay is also well worth seeing.

We booked a hotel in Ramsgate for the evening on the marina where various bars offer outdoor seating to enjoy the weather. Although you may want to stay elsewhere as the parties go on late and loud.

We had an amazing dinner at the Corner House Cafe in Minster (a short drive away) which focused on the local produce.

A lovely change of scenery. Until next time…
